Paul McCartney Japan Tour 2013

My Bloody Valentine, Tokyo International Forum, September 30th 2013

It definitely came as a surprise to the Japanese fans. Only half a year after touring Japan and two months after their appearance at the Fuji Rock Festival ’13, My Bloody Valentine are coming to Tokyo for one gig. However, the announcement of this show hints at a rather special concert.

This time they aren’t playing at some random rock venue, but at the Tokyo International Forum, which is a fully seated movie theater-like hall, known for its good acoustics. Moreover, the event is titled “World Premium Live – NEW TRACKS”, implying that the band is going to play more (or maybe even all?) tracks off their self-titled new album, this time. At their previous shows in Tokyo “New You” was the only new song they played, leading to some disappointment among Japanese fans. Another curious aspect of this upcoming show is the support act: “Sotaisei Riron” (相対性理論) – a hip J-Pop band – is an unexpected choice as their sound does not seem to have anything in common with MBV.

Tickets are priced at 8’400 Yen (approx. 84 USD) which is quite reasonable for this type of gig and band in Japan. Last spring, they charged 8’000 Yen plus an obligatory 500 Yen drink but without support act an definitely worse sound quality than the Tokyo Forum. Their three shows in Tokyo earlier this year sold out quickly, suggesting that tickets will be gone for this one soon, too. Better grab yours ASAP:
